Synopsis
Everyone has secrets. No one has secrets like Watts.

Catherine Kolb has found the perfect diversion from her life of nearly complete seclusion: a virtually anonymous correspondence with a man she knows only as "Watts." Intelligent, intriguing, and with an insatiable appetite for sex, his words begin to draw her out of her closely guarded world.

Watts insists on privacy. He has no choice. In the wrong hands, his secrets could get people killed.

Including him.

And Catherine.

But curiosity and lust prove stronger than reason and safety. A planned one-time encounter sets into motion a series of events that bring Catherine and Watts to the edge of ecstasy and the brink of peril.

Two very private people. One risky night. A shot at love and redemption.

Due to mature themes, this book is recommended for readers 18+.

Series - Review:

★★★★ 4 Stars!

"You should always give in to your curiosities, especially the forbidden ones."

Book one in the Shatterproof series by Jordan Burke is an exciting mix of romance and mystery that made me want to read the entire novella in one sitting. Quite honestly, I went in to this series with very few expectations, mostly because I had never read anything by this author and I had no idea what to expect. But I have to say that Jordan Burke managed to very pleasantly surprise me with her engaging writing style and original story-telling.

Catherine and Watts met each other through an online dating site and have been emailing each other for the past six months. Most of their conversations were about mutual interests, books being their biggest point of interest, but along the way their mails have become more and more intimate. Watts is clearly an experienced guy who loves to share his escapades and sexual fantasies, who in turn become a great source of inspiration for Catherines own imagination.

They both want to meet in each in real life but Watts's strict privacy code would prevent them to ever meet for a second time. He never does repeat-performances. It would be one time only and afterwards their might never be any contact between them ever again. Still, they're both desperate to find out if their attraction is as real in real life as it is through words, and they say life is all about taking chances so...

"Every day you don't change direction is a wasted opportunity to turn it all around, and another step closer to they day when you would wish you had taken more chances."

In order to not spoil anything, I will not go in to too much detail about what happens next in the series. I will say though, that as the series continues, Watts and Catherine slowly but surely get to know each other better and better. They have both been hurt badly by their past and share the same sense of abandonment and need for affection. They've never let anyone get close enough to grow attached to them, until they met each other.

Because of her painful childhood Catherine lives a very secluded, eventless life in which she shies away from social contact. In fact, Watts is the first person to ever penetrate the very high wall she's build around herself over the years. And Watts is much the same. His job makes it impossible to build up relationships or close friendships with anyone around him. He's mysterious, sexy as hell, controlling and an alpha male to boot but together, he and Catherine have a perfect chemistry and I couldn't help but root for their happy ending since the moment they first met.

Written in alternating point of views, we follow Watts and Catherine throughout a passionate, action-filled roller coaster ride of events in which more and more secrets are revealed. The constant suspense and mystery surrounding Watts kept me on the edge of my seat and eager to unravel all his secrets.

All in all, I really enjoyed the Shatterproof series. I was especially glad to be able to read all three books in a row, not because they ended in cliffhangers, but because I was just so caught up in Watts and Catherine's story and curious to find out what would happen next that I wanted to start the next episode of their story immediately after finishing the previous one.

If you're looking for an exciting new series with lots of steam, some humor, a limited amount of angst and quite a bit of suspense, I would highly recommend giving this series of novellas a try!

The situation was risky enough, and now I was dealing with the fact that she worked for what many people consider the world’s premier law enforcement agency.

I decided I needed to check her out. So as I left early Sunday morning, with Catherine still asleep in her bed, I found her purse where it always was—on the kitchen counter. I quickly rummaged through her stuff, found her wallet and got her name off of her driver’s license.

Catherine Marie Kolb.

On the drive home I made a phone call to Justin, a guy who occasionally did a little work for me.

I gave him Catherine’s name and birthdate, telling him all I needed was any information regarding her connections to the FBI or any other law enforcement or intelligence agencies. I asked him to keep it quiet.

“Don’t I always?” he asked. “You don’t need to tell me that, dude.”

“This is different. It’s personal.”

“Not for me,” he said. “My lips are sealed. Usual hundred bucks, dude.”

“You got it.” Dude.

I had been introduced to Justin by one of my associates. He was a grad student at Boston University, and apparently some kind of computer whiz who had turned down job offers from Microsoft, Apple, and various smaller tech firms right out of high school, opting instead to go to college. Smart kid. Damn brilliant, actually, and very eager to help out. For a small fee, of course.

Justin could get in and out of any computer in the world without leaving a trace. That’s what he claimed, at least. I wasn’t sure how true that was, but whenever I needed something that turned out to be deep within a highly secured computer network, Justin had been able to get it.

As I drove home, I mentally kicked my own ass for not having done due diligence before spending this much time with Catherine. She had given me no reason to suspect that she worked for a law enforcement agency. She’d given me no reason to believe she did anything other than some boring clerical job.

Just as I was entering the city of Baltimore, forty minutes later, my phone rang.

“She’s clean,” Justin said. “All she does is work in the department that scans incoming parcels. Sounds boring as shit, if you ask me.”

“No other jobs with the Bureau?”

“None. And no previous law enforcement or military activity. But there is something odd.”

I pulled up to a red light. “What’s that?”

“Catherine Marie Kolb didn’t exist until eight years ago.”
